      1. This seems a poor substitute for strong privacy regulation of these companies more generally. TikTok may be most closely tied to a competitor government in unsavory ways, but it’s foolish to think most apps don’t have their data for sale/accessible to unsavory regimes. @unusual_whales/1602760800275693568

      So yes, TikTok seems uniquely bad because it appears to have targeted specific US persons at Chinese bidding, but the same or more data is openly for sale by an industry regulated only by minor and infrequent public backlashes.
