  1. The core challenge in opposing self-destructive political nihilism in our system is avoiding the use of the tools that give the nihilists power.       This is why the actions of leaders seeking to defend our laws and institutions seem half-hearted, late, and a bit naive. It can look as though they don’t strongly believe in their own positions, or don’t care passionately for the results. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
