@saletan @JoshuaMZeitz It’s just unclear how long Democrats can go on upholding institutions, laws, and norms that their opposition simply has no interest in. Here, I’m thinking of how Democratic judges have actively thwarted their moves (as is lawful), while GOP judges will do anything to comply.

@saletan @JoshuaMZeitz To wit:Democrats in New York endured a mean-spirited special master blowing away House seats for no other reason than to show how independent he was. Republican officials consistently deliver their outcomes regardless of laws or norms, and this asymmetry won’t persist long-term.

@saletan @JoshuaMZeitz I have no idea how to resolve this asymmetry, where one party defends a Constitutional order and the other seeks to tear it down. But the idea that the majority endures endless policy setbacks and offends 0 norms/customs while the others flout black-letter law is deeply naive.
