      @Ugarles The subway is great, but expanding and maintaining it has become impossible, or at least very poor value for money, in large part due to cost disease and runaway bureaucracy. Global cities with better salaries and labor protections pay far less. Until that’s fixed, we’re stuck.

    @Ugarles If $2.5 billion per mile with all the demented work rules, planning reviews, and feather bedding is the norm, may as well shut the subway down now, admit we can’t do civil engineering at scale anymore in America, and save the money for something else. nytimes.com/2017/12/28/nyregion/new-york-subway-construction-costs.html
